INDIANAPOLIS – A father said it was an accident that he dropped his five-year-old son out of a third story window.
NBC affiliate WTHR reported (http://bit.ly/1bEwTLg) witnesses told them the dad said he wanted to teach his child a lesson because the boy had kicked him. So he dangled his son out of the window of his Indianapolis apartment. But then he dropped the child.
Police arrested Brandon Jordan, 32, for neglect of a dependent and criminal recklessness.
Witnesses said the child was home with Jordan Saturday night when they saw the boy fall to the ground.
"He screamed when he came down and my friends picked the baby up," neighbor Barbara Berry told WTHR. "And Jordan came flying down the steps and we were, like, 'Man, why you drop that baby like that?' (Jordan said) 'I didn't mean to. I didn't mean to."
According to WTHR, the mother was not home at the time of the incident because she was working. She doesn't know what happened, but she did say she "never thought Brandon would do anything like that."
When police officers arrived they observed the child walking and playing inside the apartment. The boy was checked by paramedics but did not appear to have any serious injuries.
WTHR reported Brandon Jordan is scheduled in court Wednesday morning. His bond is currently set at $200,000.
