SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Great Dane announced Tuesday its plans to relocate and expand its Savannah corporate office and innovation center.

Construction is expected to begin in January 2014 and will be located in the Technology Circle directly off of U.S. I-95 at Jimmy Deloach Parkway. Construction is expected to be completed in January 2015.

The new facility will be larger than its current facility on East Lathrop Avenue, supporting further growth and technology collaboration with the company's strategic partners.

"Great Dane's history in this area dates back to the beginning of the 20th century," Great Dane's president, Dean Engelage, said in a statement. "Our new Innovation Campus will position our company to continue our history of growth in Savannah while providing a modern environment that fosters teamwork, collaboration and innovation among our employees. It will also enable us to offer our customers an enhanced experience when they visit our industry-leading research and design facilities in the new campus."

The new hi-tech campus will include a three story corporate building with two additional LEED certified buildings. These buildings will be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

The new building will be more than 75,000 square feet and will include a conference center, customer preview showroom and a technology gallery.

One of the adjacent buildings will house research and development and encompass 28,000 square feet to house a manufacturing engineering lab for developing custom fixtures and automation equipment, as well as a corrosion lab.

The last building will be a 6,500-square-foot, full-scale road simulator to test trucks, tractors and busses.
