PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A Phoenix father has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder after leaving his 1-year-old son in a hot car while he was at work, leading to the child's death.
Brokale Lytte Marques, 28, entered his plea in Maricopa County Superior Court and is scheduled to appear again Nov. 21 in front of Commissioner Christine Mulleneaux.
Marques told Scottsdale police he took the child to his work at Scottsdale Road and Greenway-Hayden Loop near the Scottsdale Quarter on Sept. 21 because he was late and didn't have time to drop the boy off at the babysitter.
He originally left the child in the car with the engine running but turned the car off later in the day, he said.
When he went to check on the boy, the father found him unconscious.
The boy died at a Scottsdale hospital two days later of complications.
