MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Police arrested two teenagers in connection to the murder of Memphis Area contractor, J. P. Shelley.
Action News 5 is not releasing the names of the two teens in custody unless they are charged as adults. Both teenagers are facing first degree murder and aggravated robbery charges. They are locked up in juvenile court until a transfer hearing to determine if they will be sent to be tried as adults at 201 Poplar.
According to an affidavit of complaint read in court Monday, the two teens robbed Octavio Sanchez and J.P. Shelley. The two contractors were working at a house on Scottsdale Avenue on October 4.
"I just want them to know that they killed a wonderful man," said his wife, Beverly Shelley.
Even after the arrest, Beverly struggles with fresh grief.
"It's just heartbreaking that children from this community that should've been in school have done this to my family," she said. "I want them to be tried as adults. They did an adult crime, they need to do adult time."
Shelley says the two teens should have been in school. She and hopes what happened to her husband is a wake up call to the entire community.
"Because it's going to happen again if somebody doesn't do something and get help for these children of Memphis and get them the help they need in order to get out of the gangs and places where they're not supposed to be," she said.
