Limberios case headed for grand jury

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local family's push for answers regarding the death of their son is headed to a grand jury.

Jake Limberios died from a gunshot wound to the head in the spring of 2012. Since then, his family has been fighting the ruling that was made by the Sandusky County Coroner, that 19-year-old Limberios died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot. His parents believe someone else in the house that night fired the shot.

About four months ago, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine took over the investigation. His office confirmed Monday afternoon that a grand jury will be convened as soon as the Bureau of Criminal Investigation completes its investigation.

The grand jury could be in place in early November. The family's attorney says they've been looking for some kind of answer by Jake's 21st birthday, which is Oct. 16.

"To hear anything definitive about this process would indicate that maybe we rounded the corner and are in the home stretch is very good news for the family," said attorney Dan McGookey.

Jake's parents recently told their story to Dr. Phil. McGookey says that episode will air in the near future.
