Residents in Springfield and Ludlow are being informed of a routine water maintenance project soon that could cause short periods of water discoloration.
According to officials, the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will test the water flow capacity of several water mains in the two cities. Officials said the hydrant flow testing is a routine operation that could cause short periods of discolored, but safe water.
Officials say if you experience discolored water, run all cold-water faucets for two to three minutes, shut the water off, allow the water to settle for about 15 minutes, and run the water again for two to three minutes. If the water does not run clear, repeat this process.
It's also suggested that residents do not run hot water faucets until the cold water runs clear.
