McSally scores big in campaign contributions

PHOENIX (AP) -

After a razor-thin loss last year to Democrat Ron Barber in southeastern Arizona's 2nd Congressional District, Republican Martha McSally is beginning the 2014 race with a significant amount of money in the bank.

Reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission show McSally raised more money than the incumbent in the last three months.

McSally reported net contributions of $349,000 during the three months that ended in September. That compares with $312,000 of net contributions to Barber during the same period.

That doesn't mean Barber would outspend McSally in the 2014 general election.

He already reports having more cash on hand -- about $767,000 compared with her war chest of $388,000.

Another Republican candidate, Ed Martin, entered the race after the filing deadline.
