Man turns in thousands of cash found in parking lot

Posted: Updated:

A local man is being praised tonight for returning more than a thousand dollars he found in the parking lot of a credit union.

Tony Michalak was servicing an ATM at Wildfire Credit Union on Bay Road in Saginaw when he stumbled upon an envelope full of cash.

"I took it back into the credit union and took it up to the teller and said 'I just found this out in the parking lot'. They ripped it open, it was all 20s and it was about $2,000," said Michalak.

The teller thanked Michalak just as the man who lost the money came in to the credit union hoping someone had found it.

Wildfire Credit Union is not releasing the name of the man who lost the money but they do say he was very happy it had been recovered.

Michalak says he just did what felt right, something he learned as a child.

"I guess it's just the way my parents raised me.  They just taught me to do what was right, so I guess I got it from my parents," he said.
