Boston (CBS News) -

It was World Series title or bust for the Detroit Tigers, but the Tigers fell short of that goal, losing the ALCS to Boston in 6 games. Detroit lost Game 6 to the Red Sox, 5-2.

Detroit led 2-1 in the 7th inning when Jose Iglesias botched a ground ball that could have been turned into an inning-ending double play.

In came Jose Veras to face Shane Victorino, who fell to 0-2 in the count before hitting a grand slam that gave Boston a 5-2 lead and all but sealed the Tigers fate.

Trailing 1-0 in the 6th, Victor Martinez hit a 2-run single to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Max Scherzer started and earned the loss for Detroit, as he was responsible for 2 of the runners on base when Veras allowed the grand slam.
