Party ends with motorcycle being stolen, shots fired
SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
The Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office has arrested three men for their alleged involvement in the theft of a motorcycle as well as several felonious assaults.
Early Sunday morning, deputies were sent to a residence in the 2500 block of east M-21 on the report of shots being fired in response to a motorcycle being stolen.
Upon arrival around 3:20 a.m., deputies discovered a large gathering attempting to disperse and people stating that a person had fired a gun and re-entered the residence where the party was taking place.
Deputies were able to make contact with the subject believed to be responsible for firing the shots and secure him as well as the firearm shortly after their arrival.
During this contact it was learned that party-goers had observed two subjects pushing a motorcycle away from the residence into a wooded area and believed they were attempting to steal it. When this was reported to the resident, he armed himself with a shotgun, exited the residence and tried to find the individuals who were stealing the motorcycle.
During this process it was learned that the motorcycle, as well as those responsible for its theft, had already left the scene. At this point, witnesses report the resident discharged the shotgun into the air as well as at a vehicle which he erroneously believed to be involved with the theft of the motorcycle.
Authorities said that as a result of information received from witnesses, the stolen motorcycle was located and recovered.
Shiawassee County Sheriff's detective David Kirk said a 24-year-old Durand man and a 21-year-old Owosso man are in custody for the theft of the motorcycle. Additionally, a 21-year-old Owosso man is in custody for multiple counts of felonious assault and firearm related charges.
All three men are being held without bond at the Shiawassee County Jail. Their identities are being withheld pending formal charges and arraignment.
Investigators said no one was hurt and their probe of the incident remains ongoing.
