HEMLOCK, MI (WNEM) -

Two Mid-Michigan siblings were honored as heroes for helping to save their dad's life.

St. Peter Lutheran School Principal Eric Hagenow presented 12-year-old Abigail and 10-year-old Ian Dankert with letters signed by Gov. Rick Snyder that thanked them for being young heroes.

"It shows other students that no matter their age or their ability they are able to help out and save a life of someone in this case a loved one," said Hagenow.

Abigail and Ian came home from school one day last May to find their dad was having a grand mal seizure. Their dad, Brian Dankert, says his kids are the reason he is still here today.

"When they discovered me on the floor when they got home they knew right what to do. They called 911 and ran to the neighbor for help," said Brian Dankert.

The siblings say it feels wonderful to be recognized by the governor, but to having their dad still around is the best part of all.

"It was really scary I thought he was going to die, but he made it through," said Ian

"It feels awesome to have him here with us," said Abigail.
