The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and McLaren Health Care say they're combining their cancer care and research systems.
Detroit-based Karmanos and Flint-based McLaren say the non-profit health care providers signed the agreement Wednesday. They say it "will create the largest cancer research and provider network in Michigan."
The companies say Karmanos will become a member of McLaren's system. They say Karmanos and McLaren "will retain their names and remain as separate legal entities" with their own boards of directors.
They say they expect the agreement to effective "within several weeks."
The companies say Karmanos "will remain anchored in midtown Detroit" and will keep its relationships with Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center.
