Debris is all that remains of a vacant house that caught fire at about 2 a.m. on James Street.
The Greenfield Fire Department told CBS 3 that they are considering the fire suspicious because no one was living there.
They said the owner was fixing the house up and preparing to put it on the market.
Crews from Turners Falls, South Deerfield and Northampton all helped in fighting the blaze.
Once the fire was out, the house was demolished later in the morning.
The incident is being investigated by the state Fire Marshal's Office as well as Greenfield police and fire officials.
