ALBEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A local baby made his entrance to the world a little faster than expected and caught his parents off guard.

Albee Township Fire Captain Garrett Darby was on call Sunday afternoon when he got, what he thought, was a routine page. A local mom was about to deliver her baby in her car.

"You see something on your pager and you think the worst. I went directly to the scene. They were very excited they were excited about the delivery. I was really surprised, I didn't know if he had taken classes before or was using natural instincts but he was right on the button," said Captain Darby.

The scene was near Fry Road and M-13. But when Captain Darby arrived he says he found mom and her little bundle of joy, a son, who dad had already delivered.

Captain Darby says he did what he could to help out. "I started to check to make sure good color and breathing well, went and got blankets to keep him warm and waited for the ambulance."

The ambulance took mom, dad, and baby to Covenant to get checked out.

Captain Darby tells us it was Albee Township fire department's first baby call in 40 years. It turns out the couples two other children were in the car during the delivery.
