HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

It's a new beginning for the Stamford woman who lost her three daughters and parents in a horrific fire on Christmas Day in 2011.

Madonna Badger, 49, announced in an article she wrote for Vogue that she is engaged to marry her longtime friend, Bill Duke, in September.

According to the Vogue article, Duke was one of the three people at her bedside when she woke up in the hospital that morning.

Badger's home was under renovation when the fire broke out and quickly engulfed the structure. Fire officials said ashes from the fireplace were brought to a mud room when they were still hot, and that sparked the massive fire.

The fire killed Badger's daughters, 10-year-old Lily and 7-year-old twins, Grace and Sarah. Her mother, Pauline Johnson also died, and her father, Lomer, died trying to save one of the girls from the burning structure.
