Crowds of customers came out to Norman's in Bay City today as the local chain kicked off its going out of business sale.
"I think it's sad. It was here for 80 years and it was a historical part of the town," said one Bay City resident.
Along with the Bay City location, owner Stan Norman will also close stores in Gaylord, Tawas, Bad Axe and Standish.
Norman's financial advisor and friend, Michael Zimmerman, says it was a tough decision but it was time for Norman to retire. He says Norman is in his 80s and didn't have anyone to take over his corporation.
"He just can't do the day-to-day grind anymore as he would want to do it," said Zimmerman.
Doris Raber is a former Norman's employee. She says it's tough to see the stores close.
"It's just sad to see that there's no longer a Norman's, the community has lost a great thing," said Raber.
