TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
The search is on for a burglar who held a woman at gunpoint inside her home. The incident happened near La Cholla and Ina and led to a three hour lockdown at Donaldson Elementary.
Pima County Sheriff's investigators believe the suspect entered through a dog door from the backyard. When the woman got home around 9 a.m., she was greeted by a burglar who pointed a gun and ordered her to the ground. She says the suspect walked her to the backyard where he told her to get into the swimming pool, which she refused.
The thief made off with a lap top, two handguns and other electronics like a kindle. For much of the afternoon, crime scene detectives took fingerprints and pictures of the scene. Deputies also surrounded the neighborhood for more than two hours looking for the suspect.
Tucson News Now has learned there have been 22 reported break-ins in the area since May. On Monday, this was the second burglary in the neighborhood. Deputies are comparing footprints to see if the two might be connected.
"A lot of anger. There have been a lot of robberies," said David Kerrigan, the victim's husband. He said he was at work when he got the phone call. "I was a little frightened, I jumped in the car and came home."
Kerrigan's wife is okay but a little shaken up.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 5'-5", dark hair and armed with a gun. He had a cream colored canvas bag with dark green striping. Anyone with any information, should call 9-1-1 or 88-crime.
Deputy Courtney Rodriguez of the Pima County Sheriff's Department says they see a spike in burglaries around the holidays. She suggests putting your lights on timers, having someone check on your home if you're going out of town and to have someone pick up your mail and newspaper.
