Weather service confirms more weak Mich. tornadoes

Posted: Updated:

The National Weather Service has confirmed several weak tornado touchdowns in Michigan as part of a Midwestern storm that hit the state over the weekend.

Tornado watches were issued Sunday. On Monday, crews surveyed damage and reported that a weak tornado touched down in southern Otsego County. The weather service also reported a weak tornado in eastern Muskegon County and southern Newaygo County.

On Tuesday, the weather service said it had confirmed brief touchdowns in Mecosta and Ingham counties, and possibly in Isabella and Clare counties.

Radio station WGHN reports the weather service says the tornado in Muskegon and Newaygo counties is the first in that part of the state since 2003.

The storm caused damage scattered throughout Michigan, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses.
