New York, NY (KOLD) - If the Wildcats victory over Drexel was a character win, tonight's victory over Duke was a statement win.
The Cats held off a late Duke charge to beat the 6th ranked Blue Devils 72-66 for their fourth NIT Season Tip-Off championship.
In a game that lived up to the hype, Arizona trailed Duke by three at the half but went on a 24-8 run to take the lead and never look back. In the battle of the super freshman Aaron Gordon finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 4 assists while Jabari Parker finished with 19 points on 7 of 20 from the floor. Nick Johnson finished with a team leading 15 and was named the Tournament MVP. Brandon Ashley scored 13 points.
Arizona next hosts Texas Tech on Tuesday at McKale Center. Tip-off is 7:00pm
