VDOT Contractor rescued by Henrico EMS

Posted: Updated:

In Henrico emergency workers happened to be at the right place at the right time early Sunday morning. John parker a contractor working with VDOT had a heart attack and collapsed, while working an accident on I-64.

"We shocked him one time with his heart monitor and did a few seconds of CPR and he miraculously woke up,"  Lieutenant Curtis Wood said.

Fire officials say that Parker was setting up cones in the road near an accident site on I-64 when he collapsed suffering from a heart attack. Wood and his team rushed to help him out quickly using a heart monitor to save his life.

"Within 3 minutes of him hitting the ground, we had him back with a pulse and within another two or three minutes he was awake and talking to us," Wood said.

A few feet away the victim in the accident on I-64 was pinned inside of a car. Another EMS crew worked to get that person to the hospital.

Wood and his team say they are thankful that they were on sight to immediately save the life of a man who has, on many occasions, made sure they were safe on accident scenes.

"It happened at the right time right place with the right people around and it was nothing short of a miracle," Steve Moran said.
