Separate crashes send five to hospital

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Two separate accidents early Wednesday morning in Saginaw County have sent five people to the hospital.

The first crash happened around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Miller and Gratiot roads in the Saginaw County community of Shields.

An SUV traveling on Miller Road was struck by a vehicle that was headed east on Gratiot Road. The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The second crash happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Shattuck and Hemmeter roads in Saginaw Township. A woman and two children were headed eastbound on Shattuck Road and was turning left onto Hemmeter when she was struck by a Pontiac Grand Am.

Two adults and three children were inside of the Grand Am. The two adults were transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. The three children were picked up by family members and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
