Belton restaurant under fire for sign about scalping Redskins

Posted: Updated:
BELTON, MO (KCTV/AP) -

A Sonic restaurant in Belton apologized and quickly removed a sign urging the Kansas City Chiefs to "scalp the Redskins."

The Chiefs played the Washington Redskins Sunday afternoon.

The sign outside the drive-in on Sunday also said the Chiefs should "feed them whiskey" and send them "2 the reservation."

The sign was removed after being displayed only about 15 minutes but not before a picture was posted on Twitter.

"The remarks on this sign were offensive, unacceptable and just plain wrong," said Patrick Lenow, vice president over public relations at Sonic, in a statement.

Lenow said the franchise owner is counseling employees and apologized for the sign.
