Animal control director placed on paid leave

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Questions continue to swirl after a local animal control director was placed on administrative leave.

TV5 reporters spent the day trying to figure out what led to a change at the Saginaw County Animal Care Center. Director Kevin Wilken was put on paid administrative leave last Thursday and escorted out of the building by members of the Saginaw County Sheriff's department.

No one from the sheriff's department would comment on camera, however one person did tell WNEM TV5's James Felton that this is "an unfortunate situation."

County leaders would not comment on the issue, only saying that Wilken is on paid leave.

TV5 also learned that the prosecutor has also received paperwork on Wilken. What that information is, and why the prosecutor is involved in the first place, was not shared with us.

Wilken would not return ours calls either. We spoke with him back in July, answering our Tough Questions about the condition of the shelter. "I like a challenge and I want to do the best I can for the animals," said Wilkin. He said he was working hard to improve life for the animals there, but it was going to take time. "It's going to take two or three years, it's not something that's going to happen overnight," Wilkin said.
