A two-alarm fire was raging at a farm equipment rental business in Buckeye early Wednesday morning.
More than 50 fire units from across the West Valley were trying to contain the blaze to the aged structure that houses Buckeye Rentals in the Valley Machinery Co. complex near Maricopa Highway 85 and South Miller Road.
Crews from Buckeye, Phoenix, Glendale and Goodyear, among others, were fighting the fire to keep it from spreading to nearby businesses, including a post office they said was no longer in danger.
The fire was reported about 2:45 a.m. in the maintenance area of the business, firefighters said.
The building was constructed more than 50 years ago, and the intensity of the fire forced firefighters to let the structure burn, firefighters said.
Firefighters went on the defensive because of the danger posed if they entered the building, said Karen Alexander of the Buckeye Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
No other information was immediately available.
