WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department were dispatched to the 4200 block of Oleander Drive Tuesday morning after a patient assaulted an EMS worker and then jumped from the ambulance while it was in motion.
Police say the individual then ran away, but officers located the subject on Peachtree and South Kerr Avenues.
The subject was taken into custody and transported to NHRMC by ambulance. There was an officer on board to make sure he had no problems.
Officers cited the man for resisting arrest and assaulting emergency personnel. His name has not been released.
Police say it started as a voluntary commitment, but it turned into an involuntary commitment after he began the assault.
