Nexteer announces it will hire 70 engineers

Posted: Updated:

Call it a bounce back from near collapse.

Just a few years ago, employees at one of mid-Michigan's biggest employers didn't know how long they would have jobs.

Jill Dralle knows that best.

"In some ways, it's hard to believe we are where we are at today," said Dralle.

Dralle worked as a research and development engineer for 20 years and said she didn't know if the steering and driveline facility in Buena Vista Township would make it.

Nexteer bought the former Delphi plant during the times of turmoil, and the work has survived.

Dralle is now a plant manager at Nexteer, and she said it's an excellent thing to see.

"When I hired in, General Motors was like about it, but since then, we now supply 50 customers worldwide, and that has just been a phenomenal thing to watch," said Dralle.

At this year's Global Leadership Conference, Nexteer leaders announced they're healthy, so healthy that they're looking to expand their workforce and are ready to hire an additional 70 engineers in the next few months.

"We keep focusing on diversifying, growing in every region, diversifying customers, so actually every week we're pursuing new business, and we've been adding at a very high success rate," said Nexteer President Laurent Bresson.

"Let's call it the traumatic events from, lets say six years ago. The world has completely changed," said Nexteer's Vice- resident Frank Lubischer.

Innovative ways have helped increase the bottom line for Nexteer.

"We've streamlined our processes. We have sustained during the downturn. We have kept and even further developed our technology skills and technology management, and that is what we are profiting from today," said Lubischer.

This has led to the ability to hire more people to staff the needs they have, success that the Mid-Michigan region needs to hear.

"It's certainly, definitely, a vote of confidence in our engineering ability, our technical ability, as well as all of the hourly people that work for us and the talent they bring to the table," said Dralle.
