PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police were looking for a man suspected of shooting another man during an apparent domestic dispute Thursday morning.

Officers are searching for 28-year-old Kheylon Cunningham who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Police said Cunningham and his girlfriend got in a fight at his girlfriend's apartment near 23rd Avenue and Indian School Road.

A 20-year-old man, who is the father of one of her children, stepped in the middle of the fight and police said Cunningham shot him. He later died at the hospital.

Police said two children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Crump said police don't think the children saw the shooting.

"We are fortunate that the kids are OK. It was an infant and a 6-year-old. They were not hurt in this. They are with family now and it is our goal to try and locate the suspect," Crump said.

The suspect was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and has a distinctive scar over his left eye, Crump said.

Police and SWAT officers, many with their weapons drawn, were combing the neighborhood and nearby areas for the shooter.
