PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A family of eight escaped a house fire in north Phoenix on Thursday.

The fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. in a neighborhood near Thunderbird Road and 19th Avenue, a Phoenix fire spokesman said.

The occupants inside the home detected smoke and "that electric smell" and got out of the home immediately, the spokesman said.

The fire was contained to a back addition to the home, the spokesman said.

The family will have to seek alternative housing, the spokesman said.

There was no cause or damage estimate available.
