CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

Chandler City Council members will be getting a raise.

The City Council passed a proposal Thursday night giving City Council members and the mayor a 37 percent pay increase.

The Council is made up of Mayor Jay Tibshraeny and Vice Mayor Jack Sellers, along with Council members Trinity Donovan, Nora Ellen, Kevin Hartke, Rick Heumann and Jeff Weninger, according to chandleraz.org.

The hike kicks in January of 2015.

Tibshraeny was first elected Chandler mayor in 1994, and served in that capacity for four consecutive terms through 2002. He served in the Arizona State Senate from 2003 to 2011, before returning to the mayor's office in January of 2011.

Tibshraeny was recently awarded American City & County magazine's Municipal Leader of the Year.
