One lane of westbound Interstate 40 has reopened after a crash 30 miles west of the Arizona-New Mexico border, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Icy conditions exist in the area after a winter storm passed through Thursday night, and the closure that began at 6 a.m. was expected to last for an undetermined amount of time, an ADOT official said.
The closure was at Chambers and the junction of U.S. Highway 191, the official said.
ADOT advised drivers to delay travel and to exit I-40 before reaching the closure area. There are no nearby alternate routes to get around the closure.
Drivers who wish to continue westbound can exit I-40 and take U.S. 191 southbound to St. Johns, then use U.S. 180 westbound to return to I-40 in Holbrook.
