Mid-Michigan police forces have teamed up to make more than two dozen retail fraud arrests at area stores.

Members of the Saginaw Township Police department's Crime Prevention Unit, along with deputies from the Saginaw County Sheriff department and Troopers from the Michigan State Police, partnered with area security and loss prevention officers in an effort to curb retail related crimes this holiday season.

The "Shoplifting Blitz" took place Thursday and Friday, Dec. 12 and 13.  Nearly two dozen retail stores from Saginaw and Kochville Townships participated.

Authorities said the combined effort resulted in the arrest of 30 suspects for retail fraud.

Investigators said several arrestees also had out-standing warrants. Over $3,000 worth of merchandise was recovered by officers.

"This cooperative effort will hopefully send a message to thieves that we take crimes against our business community seriously. If you plan on committing a crime against ours businesses, we will hold you accountable," said Saginaw Township Police Chief Donald Pussehl.

The Saginaw Township police said they plan to conduct additional operations to target retail crimes in the near future.
