A veteran Springfield police officer has been granted a new trial on assault charges after losing his pension.
According to our media partner Masslive.com/The Republican, Derek Cook pleaded guilty to charges in connection with an attack on two of his superiors during roll-call in 2008.
A judge allowed Cook to withdraw his plea because he argued he was misled about being able to keep his pension.
Cook's pension was revoked even though he remains on the force as a beat cop on the day shift.
A pretrial hearing in the case is set for Jan. 2.
