VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
By now the controversy surrounding the TV show "Duck Dynasty" and one of its main characters, Phil Robertson, is well known.
Robertson was recently suspended from the show by A&E, the network on which the show airs, because of his comments about homosexuality and the treatment of African Americans in Louisiana prior to the civil rights movement.
Now, a Facebook page has been created, encouraging people to wear camo or "Duck Dynasty" apparel and eat at Chick-Fil-A on January 21st as a way to show support for Robertson.
It is important to point out however, that this page is not, in anyway, affiliated with Chick-Fil-A.
A couple of Lowndes residents say no matter who the page is or isn't affiliated with, they support the movement. "Yes, I'd really do it," said Troy Simmons, an avid "Duck Dynasty" fan.
"I'm on the side with Phil," Simmons added. "I just don't understand [why] A&E's doing all of this."
Zach Simmons had the same response when asked if he would be willing to participate in "National Chick-Phil-A Day."
Would you be willing to eat a Chick-Fil-A on January 21st if it in some way benefited Duck Dynasty or benefited Phil in anyway?
"Yes, I would," Zach said.
Both Troy and Zach said that it all comes down to freedom of speech. "I think we should all be able to express what we believe," Troy stated.
"I think he had a right to say what he said. We have freedom of speech, that's one of the amendments," Zach explained.
No matter what side you're on, this controversy likely won't be ducking from the headlines anytime soon.
