The Ohio OVI Habitual Offender Registry website gets an upgrade

Posted: Updated:

The OVI Habitual Offender Registry website has gotten a facelift.

Any one with five or more convictions in the past 20 years has their name on the registry and anyone can keep tabs on them with a click of the mouse.

The problem with the website is that no one knows it exists.

We spoke to several people with the same response when asked about the site, including a Cleveland man, who had this to say, "I did not know that there was such a website."

The registry has been around since 2008 but upgrades were needed.

Lt. Anne Ralston with the Ohio State Highway Patrol tells us, "Since then we have compiled a new system which automatically looks at existing electronic records and dumps the information into the registry."

In other words, they have deleted the paper process from the courts, which delayed more recent updates to the database.

The new system gets the information automatically from already existing electronic records.

Right now 5,300 offenders are registered and the hope is that the public will be aware and report these habitual drunk drivers.
