SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

With winter is hitting Mid-Michigan hard already this season but there is some good news. Those hard at work plowing snow are raking in the business as the white stuff has snow removal companies seeing green.

Cindy Heinz, owner of Jonny Heinz Landscaping in Thomas Township, is busy planning for the latest change in the weather expected this week.

It means that her snow plow trucks will once again hit the road to clear off the snow and ice.

"Its supposed to freeze up and my guys will be out working again, possibly New Year's Eve. We had one snow removal in December which was on the 26th and and we have nine so far this December and we are not quite over yet. Its definitely a shot in the arm so many businesses struggled the last three or four years that we needed this," says Heinz.

In fact, Heinz says she had to even had to increase staffing to keep up with the demand.

"To be able to get out there in work and keep their employees going so that they can provide for their families, its an added bonus if you will," says Heinz.

Heinz says the plan was always to keep plowing through the tough times but they are grateful things have turned around.

"We've got a lot of pushers out there that are eager to work and get through the winter, its a lot easier this year and we thank our stars for that," says Heinz.

Snow removal isn't the only industry thriving this winter season. The cold and snow also means big business for area ski resorts.
