BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

The hearing for a man accused of attacking his pregnant girlfriend with a power drill has been rescheduled.

Jermaine Perkins was set to appear before a judge Monday, but the hearing is now expected to happen on the January 10.

Authorities have filed felony assault charges against Perkins. Police say 23-year-old Tyresha Humphrey told them that Jermaine Perkins slapped and kicked her, punched her in the stomach and cut her arm with a Black and Decker cordless drill Dec. 15.

Police say Humphrey was five months pregnant by a previous boyfriend. She says Perkins wanted her to miscarry.

They also said Perkins claimed he was defending himself. The 23-year-old Perkins is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence.
