A local franchise owner kept the holiday spirit alive when he returned a wallet that was left inside his store in the Haywood Mall to its owner over the holidays.
Vick Patel said he found the wallet, loaded with $500 in cash, near the coffee machines inside his Street Corner shop in the food court as he was closing up Dec. 28.
Patel said it turned out a 15-year-old boy had left the wallet, filled with his Christmas gift money behind while he was shopping with his family.
He said he expected the owner to return for it, and Patel said he the boy came back in the store on New Year's Day.
Patel said he recognized the boy from a photograph inside the wallet and gave him back his lost wallet.
He said the boy and his family were very grateful, but Patel said he was just doing the right thing.
Patel has owned the Street Corner at the Haywood Mall for the past 17 years.
