KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Now that the Kansas City Chiefs season is over, a superstitious group of Kansas Citians has come up with the reason they think the city's teams can't win in the playoffs.
They call it "The Curse of the Shuttlecocks."
The group says that ever since the badminton birdies were put on the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in 1994, there have been no playoff victories for the Kansas City Royals or the Chiefs.
In the few years before the Shuttlecocks were installed, the Royals had seven winning seasons and a World Series championship, and the Chiefs had three playoff wins.
However, some Kansas City sports fans believe the curse to false.
Sporting Kansas City won the MLS Cup in December. When the soccer club was called the Wizards, they won both the MLS Cup and the MLS Supporters' Shield in 2000 and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2004 and 2012.
The group believes the curse is real, and even has a Change.org petition going to get the birdies removed. Click here for more information.
