LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Las Vegas cab driver who returned $300,000 in cash he found in the back of his taxi is set to receive an official honor on Tuesday morning.

Gerardo Gamboa has been named Cab Driver of the Year and will be recognized during Tuesday's meeting of the Clark County Commission at 9:05 a.m.

Gamboa picked up a man from the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas on Dec. 23, receiving a $5 tip. He later discovered a brown paper bag in the backseat, containing $300,000.

Gamboa immediately turned the money over to his cab company, Yellow Checker Star, saying he didn't want someone else's money. It turned out the money belonged to a professional poker player.

Gamboa received $1,000 from Yellow Checker Star and a $10,000 reward from the unidentified poker player.

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak will present the Cab Driver of the Year proclamation to Gamboa.
