CARROLLTON, MI (WNEM) -

A community comes together to celebrate the life of a longtime educator.

A huge crowd gathered for a balloon release Sunday to honor the principal of Carrollton Elementary, who died suddenly last week.

Parents, current students, and former students showed up to Carrollton Elementary School. With them, more than a thousand balloons in the school colors, to honor its beloved principle.

Marc Jaremba died last week of cardiac arrest, his sudden passing, hitting everyone in the school district who knew him. Anne Marie Aiken first met the longtime educator as a child.

Years later as a parent, when her own child had him as principle.

"Families that have been in Carrollton and everybody knows him and he was always such wonderful and carrying person," said Aiken.

Marc Jaremba was part of the Carrollton school district for more than 25 years and his impact is evident by the number of people who showed to remember him.

Tim Wilson, Carrollton Superintendent said, "He was not only a great principle, but he was a great person, he really cared about people, I've only been here six months as a superintendent, but he already became a really good friend, that's just how Marc was."

After a ringing of the school bell, all those balloons were released in the sky, a tribute. Anne Marie Aiken says she is sad that her youngest child who is only two, won't get the chance to know Jaremba as well.

Many people wrote messages on the balloons to Jaremba and his family, before releasing them.

Funeral services for Jeremba will begin with Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. Monday morning at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 4735 West Michigan Avenue in Saginaw.
