WNEM TV5 has learned the body of a missing 18-year-old Alma College student has been found.
Alma Police LTV. Matt Schooley said Sean Thomas Murawske's body was found in a field around 12:30 p.m., just north of the Alma College campus.
The discovery was made by volunteer searchers from Murawske's hometown of Harbor Beach.
TV5's Faith Gantner said police are continuing to investigate the discovery.
"At this time we have no reason to believe anything other than that he wandered away," said Schooley.
More than 200 loved ones and Alma College students gathered in Alma this morning to search for Murawske. Sean's aunt, Mary York, says the family is grateful for the community's support.
"We just want to thank everyone for any effort they put in whatsoever and all the prayer that we can still continue to get for the family would be really appreciated," said York.
Loved ones say Murawske will be remembered for his kindness.
"This is such a loss to us because he really was such a sweet kid," said York.
Authorities said Murawske was last seen on Saturday night at an on-campus party at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity on W. Center Street.
Anyone with information in connection to Murawske's death is asked to call the Alma Police Department at 989-463-8317.
Alma College President Jeff Abernathy issued this statement later on Tuesday:
With deep sadness, I write to report that Sean Murawske's body was found by a search team today. No additional details are available at this time. The chapel is open for anyone who would like to meditate or pray, and we will hold a prayer service at 4:00 this afternoon. Please keep Sean's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
WNEM.com will add to this story as new information comes into our newsroom. TV5 will have a live update on this story coming up tonight beginning at 5 p.m.
Murawske's family has set up a fund to help pay for funeral expenses. You can donate to "Murawske Funeral Fund" at any Signature Bank.
