BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A Handy Middle School teacher has been arrested and arraigned on charges of having inappropriate conduct with a minor between the ages of 13 and 15.

Sarah Raymo, 31, of Essexville was arrested Tuesday.

Douglas Newcombe, Bay City Public Schools superintendent, said school officials became aware of the improper contact on Friday and immediately reported it to police.

On Wednesday, parents of students at Handy Middle received a recorded phone message from the school's principal alerting them to the situation.

According to the Bay-Arenac ISD directory, Raymo is an English language arts intervention specialist.

Wednesday night, TV5 spoke to parents who received the recorded phone message.

"I'm stunned. I'm grossed out and stunned," said Danielle Rooker, who has a son who goes to Handy Middle School.

Matthew Reyes is Raymo's lawyer.

"They're alleging that the inappropriate relationship was both at her home in Essexville as well as the school," Reyes said.

Reyes said Raymo is in the Bay County jail. He said his client entered a not-guilty plea in court.

"She's answered all questions. She's certainly tried to do what she can to cooperate with all those involved. But then again, we don't know what the specific allegations are," said Reyes.

Raymo has been put on administrative leave by the Bay City Public School district.
