Teacher faces charges after allegedly taping kids' mouths

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (AP) -

Authorities say a former substitute teacher who reportedly put duct tape over the mouths of 16 elementary students in Flint is facing charges.

The city announced Friday that city prosecutors authorized the misdemeanor warrant Wednesday after a Dec. 3 incident at Brownell STEM Academy. The teacher's name wasn't released, pending arraignment.

The teacher faces multiple counts of assault and battery.

In December, officials in Flint said they were investigating and had fired the teacher after he reportedly put duct tape over one student's mouth.

The teacher filed a police report accusing the principal of assault, saying the principal put tape over the teacher's mouth and his lip was cut.

City Prosecutor Peter Bade says he declined to charge the principal, calling the allegation not credible.
