Mecosta man arrested on criminal sex charges

Posted: Updated:
CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Michigan State Police troopers from the Mt. Pleasant post said in a news release Friday that they have arrested a Mecosta, MI, man on multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Troopers said the arrest of 37-year-old Edward Mitchell comes following a two-year investigation into the allegations. No further details from the case were divulged by authorities.

On Monday, Jan. 13, a district court in Clare County issued a warrant for Mitchell's arrest. On Wednesday, troopers said Mitchell was located a short distance from his Mecosta home and arrested without incident.

Mitchell was arraigned on Thursday and his bond was set at $300,000. He remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.
