SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

It's an unimaginable crime against a little baby boy. DeMarcus Allen is accused of killing his girlfriend's 14-month-old son.

Neighbors who lived near little Ramon Vasquez are devastated.

Dan Alcorta says Allen visited that home frequently. He insists nothing looked out of the ordinary. He still he can't imagine why anyone would hurt a child. He was heartbroken to hear the child has died, but didn't know someone close to the baby had been charged.

""This type of thing doesn't happen around here. It's crazy. It's just extra painful when a child is involved," says Alcorta.

During his arraignment, Allen shook his head when the judge read the charges against him. At times, speaking under his breath, saying he didn't do it.

And at times, when offering too much information, Judge Terry Clark warned him to stop.

"This is on record. Don't say too much. You need to speak to a lawyer," said Judge Clark.

Prosecutors would not specify a motive or outline a course of event but they say the abuse happened at the home on the 2100 block of Green Street in Saginaw.

In the end, it was no surprise that the judge denied bail.

Few details are being released at this time but more information should become available during Allen's preliminary hearing at the end of the month.
