Car vs. train accident reported in Oakley

OAKLEY, MI (WNEM) -

TV5 has received word of an accident involving a passenger vehicle and a railroad yard engine in the Saginaw County community of Oakley.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the railroad crossing near the intersection of Sharon Road and Main Street or M-52.

Main Street or M-52 was closed in the area but the roadway has since reopened.

A 20-year-old Merrill man was heading southbound on M-52 and allegedly failed to stop for the flashing lights at the railroad crossing when he hit a railroad yard engine. A yard engine is used to push railcars from yard to yard. No railcars were attached to the engine at the time of the crash.

No one was injured in the incident. The driver of the car was ticketed.
