SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Bitter cold is lingering across Mid-Michigan, with readings below zero and snow snarling traffic in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service reported Wednesday morning lows of 21 degrees below zero in Alpena in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.

Frigid readings came in throughout Michigan Wednesday, including minus 16 in Ann Arbor in southeastern Michigan and Drummond Island at the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula. Detroit's low hit zero degrees.

Here at home, TV5 Meteorologist Lauren Fahrenkrug says to expect widely scattered snow showers on Thursday. We should see a high around 12.

A Wind Chill Watch is still in effect for Bay, Genesee, Huron, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee and Tuscola counties until 12 p.m. Friday. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for Gratiot and Isabella counties until 1 p.m. Friday.
