Wesley Chapel High under brief lockdown Friday

Posted: Updated:
WESLEY CHAPEL, FL (WFLA) -

Wesley Chapel High School went into a brief lockdown on Friday afternoon while Pasco County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of an injured student.

A freshman female student had reported to school officials that she had a cut or injury to her upper torso. The injury was described as superficial and non life-threatening.

A number of deputies and detectives responded to the school as a precaution, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. The PCSO SWAT team was not called to the school.

The school went into lockdown around 12:20 p.m. The Pasco Sheriff's Office determined there was no credible threat to the students or the school and lifted the lockdown at 1:50 p.m.

The investigation later found that the injury was not the result of an assault or attack on the student, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson.

Wesley Chapel Elementary and Thomas E. Weightman Middle Schools were also in lockdown. The lockdowns at those schools were also lifted.
