More hard winter weather sweeps across Mid-Michigan

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM/AP) -

Winter's blows keep pounding Mid-Michigan, where a fresh snowfall on top of deep subfreezing temperatures has made roadways resistant to the effects of salt.

Temperatures will range from the teens to double-digits below zero, with wind chills again dropping into the negatives.

TV5 Weather Specialist Eric Jylha says most of the snow has passed to the east. The area may have some final bursts of light snow through early Monday, which will become partly sunny. Mid-Michigan will stay dry until Thursday and that is our next chance of snow showers.

Cold air is pushing into Michigan now, and we'll drop to 5 degrees early Monday before falling to -8 Monday night. The wind will be gusting out of the west, and a Wind Chill Warning is in effect Monday and will last until Wednesday at 12 p.m., with wind chills Monday night as low as minus 30 to minus 35.

Most of the northern parts of the region are under a Wind Chill Advisory until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Missuakee and Wexford counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Temps will rebound later in the week, but will still be below average for this time of winter.

As snow falls and drifts over the pavement. Before you get in your car, here are some things you should pack in case of an emergency.

Make sure to have a full tank of gas and an emergency kit in your vehicle. That kit should include gloves, blankets and hats, in case you become stranded.

For your home, you'll want extra batteries, flashlights, blankets, canned foods, food for your pets, and water.

Citizens who need assistance are encouraged to call 2-1-1.

Whiteout conditions are reported on some Michigan roadways, with gusting winds and blowing snow making travel treacherous

The snow that's causing problems is also being blamed for a 33-car pile-up in Metro-Detroit. The crash happened Sunday night in Warren.

Police say cars were not able to stop on the slick roads, leading to the chain reaction crash.

No one was seriously hurt in the crash but several people were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
