SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM/AP) -

Hundreds of schools in Michigan are closed because of snow and dangerously cold weather conditions.

In Mid-Michigan, more than 130 schools and businesses were listed in the TV5 School Closings section.

In Kalamazoo County, most schools are closed Monday including Western Michigan University. In southeastern Michigan, public schools in Macomb County were among those shut down. Closings were reported in Wayne and several other counties.

On Monday, public schools in Lansing announced plans to shut down Tuesday because of more anticipated cold weather.

In western Michigan, MLive.com reports schools in Muskegon, Ottawa, Oceana and Newaygo counties canceled Monday classes. They also had called off school Friday due to a storm. Districts in Kent and Ottawa counties are closed, including Grand Rapids and Holland.

School closings also are reported in the Upper Peninsula. Bay College's Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses shut down due to weather.

Stay tuned Tuesday when more severe cold temps are on tap, which could lead to more school closings in our area.
